Three Rituals for a Magical Spring
Spring is by far my favorite season. Everything feels fresh and new, from garden beds filling up with seedlings to sparkling clean houses from deep spring scrubs. It makes me feel like anything is possible, and my rituals reflect that feeling of wonder and new beginning.
These three rituals can be done anytime during the spring season. They are built specifically for this season, taking into account the theme of the season as well as what is available to us for use during this time. There are rituals I perform daily no matter what the season, but I believe living a seasonal life isn’t just eating seasonal food, but allowing yourself to fall into the rhythms and rituals of each distinct season. It helps us ground us in the present, and connects us back to Mother Earth.
The Abundance Egg
This ritual is best done towards the beginning of the season. It brings a physical manifestation of your hopes and dreams for the coming year, allowing you to not only set those dreams in motion, but also watch them grow. Literally.
You will need:
An egg
A permanent marker
Incense, sage, palo santo, or cleansing smoke of your choice
Either a garden bed or a pot and potting soil
A plant of your choice (Make sure if you are using a pot that the plant is the correct size for the pot)
Instructions:
Take a moment to center yourself, breathing deep. When you feel ready, light your incense or smudge stick, and cleanse yourself, your egg, and your pot if you are using one.
Once cleansed, use the marker to write your dreams and ambitions for the coming year. Many witches consider spring the beginning of the year as we focus on the wheel of the year rather than the calendar year. Add goals you wish to accomplish, things you want to manifest, relationships you want to develop. There is no wrong way, this is personal to you.
When you are finished writing on the egg, sit with it for a while, envisioning those dreams as your reality. Then bury the egg in the garden bed or place it in your pot. Plant the plant you chose over the top of the egg, and watch through the season as it grows.
Make a magical floor wash.
Spring is synonymous with cleaning, but along with the actual cleaning of our homes, it is the perfect season to cleanse the home’s energy too. In fact, blending magic and housework is a time honored tradition amongst witches. This floor wash utilizes the energetic properties of herbs to revitalize your home’s energy, put up magical protections, and also leave your floors sparkling clean.
You will need:
Fresh rosemary sprigs
Fresh mint sprigs
Fresh sage leaves
The peel of one lemon
A cinnamon stick
2 cups of white vinegar
½ cup of baking soda
A tablespoon of castile soap
1 gallon of hot water
Instructions:
Cleanse and thank the herbs for the work they are going to do for you. Place them in your mop bucket (or kitchen sink, as I tend to do) along with the soap, water, and baking soda. Mix clockwise. Slowly add the vinegar. It shouldn’t react violently with the baking soda since the water has diluted it.
Mop any hard floors with this solution to invite in new energy, peace, protection, and prosperity. You could also add some of the solution to a spray bottle to wipe down exterior doors, windowsills, etc.
Take a cleansing spring bath.
